Spring Green is home to my first Bucket List item: the House on the Rock, and to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin, which is on Shailah’s list.
Earlier this week, I got an e-mail from someone in London who will be in Madison this summer for work. He also wants to see Taliesin, but doesn’t have a driver’s license nor a way to get out to Spring Green. He seemed surprised there were no buses that went out there, and I can see how a European would be surprised by that. If this were Europe, there would be three buses – and even a couple of trains – a day departing Madison for the outlying communities.
But, since that’s not an option, I contacted the visitor’s center at Taliesin to see if they had any ideas for the lad. They said that some visitors have traveled the 38 miles by taxi. According to Taxi Fare Finder, a one-way trip from Madison to Spring Green would cost $102.14, plus a 15% tip. Ouch. I imagine other foreign tourists – and many a college kid – would be in the same position and would think Taliesin would offer a shuttle bus from Madison at least once a week for 20 bucks. There’s my business idea for the week.
