In less than two weeks I’m scheduled to head out to western Wisconsin to explore a collection of attractions out there, including Wollersheim Winery in Prairie du Sac.
I’m not a very educated wine drinker, but if it tastes good and is relatively inexpensive, I’m game. Wollersheim hits both of those marks, and even the rest of the country (and the world!) is beginning to take note: Wollersheim was recently named the 2012 Winery of the Year at the San Diego International Wine Competition. Take that, California. Not only are our cows far superior to yours, but our wine is now, too.
The only winery tour I’ve been on was at Stone’s Throw in Door County, but that winery imports their grapes. I’m looking forward to exploring the 40-year-old Wollersheim, which grows its own grapes, and tasting their unique selection of wines, including their Ice Wine – made from frozen grapes.
Do you have a favorite Wollersheim wine?
